PostgreSQL TDE took a decade. What now?

Event: Prague PostgreSQL Meetup

Dates: 30 September 2026

Presentation: 30 September 2026 , 01:00

Speaker: Jan Wieremjewicz

It took about a decade to get a fully open source TDE solution for PostgreSQL, and we are still not quite done. TDE is still not part of PostgreSQL Community without additional server changes.

This talk is a practical update on where PostgreSQL TDE is today, why it matters, what still does not work well enough and what the possible paths forward are.

I recently heard that “there are no good TDE solutions for PostgreSQL.” Let’s challenge that, look at the remaining gaps and discuss what it would take for the community to get TDE to a good place.
